Stories: Dick Nelms and Bob Minto
Philanthropy allows us to imagine, to grow, to inspire.
Dick Nelms is 97 years old. And his newfound friend Bob Minto is 95 years old.
They only met recently for the first time and bonded over their shared history as pilots during World War II.
But another thing connected them.
They both underwent a Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement, or TAVR, at Swedish that spared them the risks of open-heart surgery.
“I knew I was growing old, I didn’t want to feel it,” says Dick.
Shortly following their procedures their physician, Sameer Gafoor, M.D., medical director for the Swedish Structural Heart Program, suggested Dick and Bob meet.
And a friendship was born.
When you give to Swedish, you make innovative, compassionate health care – and stories like Dick and Bob’s – possible.
